Guidelines in the Home
Other things to remember for your home:
- Recycle everything you can like cans, bottles, paper etc
- Take old clothes or unwanted items to charity shops because someone else will make use of them
- Avoid all pre wrapped fruit and vegetables buy loose when ever possible
- Plan meals better so that no food is wasted
- Use cold water in washer whenever you can
- Store food in reusable containers instead of foil or plastic wrap
- Buy paper products instead of plastic because they can be broken down easily
- Do not buy products with loads of unnecessary packaging
- Do not use new plastic bags every time you go shopping. Use the same bags, have a “Bag for Life”
- Buy locally grown food and products rather than abroad because the transportation costs are much higher
- Use reusable nappies rather then using disposable ones because the latter increases the landfill sites and when they are being produced they contaminate the environment
- Do not put old computers, TVs or ink cartridges into the bin because when they end up in landfill sites they produce lead, cadmium, barium, and mercury which are all extremely hazardous to the environment. You could sell these unwanted items on auction sites, give them to charity or find appropriate websites where people will take them from you fro free and use them
- Teach your own children and others around you to protect the environment and recycle

I believe time is running out fast. We keep on burning fossil fuels and ignore the damage it is causing with excuses. If we don't act soon we will regret it. Over 25 million people have already been forced from their homes! How many more before we really take this seriously?
